Biography

Xin chào, hello! My name is May.

I’m an international student from Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam and I’ve been residing in New Zealand for 3 years to pursue my degree.

Coming from a creative family background, I’ve always had a deep passion for the arts, such as singing, playing musical instruments, and creating film and photography content that reflects my artistic vision. Throughout my studies, I was able to combine my past experience in Communication Design with my current expertise in design thinking. This blend of skills has greatly fuelled my passion for developing different forms of interactive media and user interface (UI) designs.

My Capstone project is a reflection of this passion for my future career in design. Looking ahead, I’m excited to continue applying these skills that I have acquired here into the professional world, to further contribute to projects that can both inspire and resonate with people.

Project Description

“MOANA” is a sustainable shopping app designed to raise awareness and action towards marine life conservation. It is aimed at creating a platform for local eco-friendly brands, environmentally conscious consumers, and individuals who want to make a positive impact on marine ecosystems by improving their everyday shopping habits.

The app allows users to browse for products based on specific sustainable values, read useful insights, keep track of live donations, connect them with events such as local beach clean-ups, and offer the choice of donating app credits or their own funds to campaigns that support ocean preservation; all from a click of a button.

The ocean is constantly under threat with an array of challenges, such as plastic pollution, overfishing, climate change, and toxic chemicals being pumped out into the ocean. All these issues pose a threat to marine life, leading to the death of several sea creatures and anemones that could disrupt their entire ecosystem and even bring health risks to human consumption.

With this project, I aim to create a solution to these issues by seamlessly integrating conservation efforts into one of the most common modern activities, which is online shopping. Through “MOANA”, I hope to inspire users to bridge the gap between sustainable consumerism and each individual’s responsibility to improve the health of our oceans.
