Majoring In Media Design

Biography

To the person reading this. My name is Nathaniel Bron, but I usually just go by Nate. I’ve lived all around New Zealand, from the South Island to the North Island but I’m currently live in Hamilton while I study. Ive always been a creatively inclined person, whether it was sketching, experimenting around with painting or creating movies with the family iPad.

I think that influenced my decision to major in Media design. In high school I discovered design through one of my classes and as the years have gone on, I’ve only gotten more passionate. My studies over the last three years have been great and comparing my skills to the things I was creating back in high school; it is safe to say that I have come a long way and improved my sense of design greatly. I’ve made great friends along the way, and not to say that it hasn’t come without its hard times, but it’s generally been a pretty awesome time here at UoW.

Project Description

OPCYCLE is an app which displays all of the op-shops in the local area, allowing for a simple and easy way to discover new or old op-shops. The app allows the owners of these op-shops to create a digital storefront and put selected featured clothing onto their storefront for customers to see all from the simple comfort of their phone. Users of the app can reserve items for 30 minutes which allows them time to go and purchase in-store.

I chose to design OPCYCLE mainly because I like to op-shop myself and I thought it would be handy to have an app on my phone which would allow me to see all the op-shops in the local area. The featured section was originally the whole store’s stock but I decided to make it just a featured section only because I thought that it would add too much work for the owners to implement the technology, and also I thought that part of the fun to go to op-shops is sifting through the racks looking for prime pieces of clothing. This line of thought has helped drive the key design decisions made throughout the duration of my project.
