Biography

Kia Ora! My name is Juhaina Ibrahim, and I’m originally from Syria, but I’ve called New Zealand home for the past 8 years. From a young age, I’ve always been drawn to colour, art, and all things creative; whether it was painting, colouring, or solving puzzles. My passion for design grew naturally from these early interests, leading me to explore how design plays a role in everything around us.

Over the past three years, studying design at the University of Waikato has allowed me to expand my creative horizons and experiment with different forms of expression. I’ve had the opportunity to work on diverse projects, including publication design, website design, media design, and UI/UX design. I was also lucky enough to work at Gallagher as part of my internship in the third year of my degree. All these experiences have helped shape my understanding of the endless possibilities in the design world.

Project Description

For my project this year, I designed an interactive activity book for children, focusing on Responsible Consumption and Production. My aim was to create an engaging way to educate kids on sustainability, encouraging active interest in protecting the environment. Presented in a fun, interactive format, the book inspires young learners to develop habits for a healthier planet.

This interactive activity book is designed to educate kids aged 7-10 about Responsible Consumption and Production through an interactive approach. The book will focus on the three R's: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle to emphasize the importance of responsible consumption and production. The book aims to instil positive actions and habits from a young age.

Our world faces major environmental issues like pollution, resource exhaustion, and waste. Educating kids about sustainability is important in developing early habits and knowledge that can lead to a much healthier future. However, this topic often leaves children uninterested and they lose attention. Changes need to be made and more of an engaging and interactive approach needs to be taken. Kids at a young age are often not familiar with what is happening around the world. They need to learn this from a young age.
