"Styles come and go. Good design is a language, not a style." - Massimo Vignelli
My passion for Design stemmed from High School. I have always been passionate about all things creative. I enjoy communicating ideas visually through the use of modern mediums.Studying at the University of Waikato has taught me so much about myself, the way I design and how design has influenced the world. Over the 3 years I have studied here, I've been able to strengthen my design skills and gain more insight on the areas of design that I am passionate about which are Branding, Print Design and UX Design.
Project Description
Matariki is a celebration of culture, language, and people. 'Whiria Te Tangata' is a mobile app that incorporates AR, showing the stars of Matariki as you point your camera to the sky. The app has two main features. The first area educates users about Matariki and the second is a section that shows all of the Matariki events for the Ngāti Kahungunu iwi each year.
'Whiria Te Tangata' is a Māori whakatauki (proverb), meaning 'weave the people together'. I have chosen this whakatauki as the title of this project because it represents my focus and message for this project. Matariki is a time of reflection, family, and gathering. My goals for this project were to educate our tamariki but also to bring families and iwi together.
The target audience is aimed at young tamariki/rangatahi in schools in the Wairarapa that are not familiar with Matariki and want to learn in an immersive manner. The targeted aged is 13 - 18 years.
