Student Bio

Hello! I'm Rohan, a soon graduating Bachelor of Design student majoring in Interface Design at the University of Waikato. As a former Software Engineering student, I found UI/UX design more interesting and decided to follow my passion by pursuing an Interface Design degree.

I have always had an interest in web and app design since high school, and studying at the University of Waikato has given me plenty of opportunities to work on projects which I enjoy. Studying here has greatly improved my design skills and is an amazing place to share your creative work and get valuable feedback on how to further improve your designs.

Project Description

With the current fitness and workout apps on the market lacking in features and not being very user friendly, I wanted to create an app which acts like an 'all in one' fitness app. Many people who want to go to the gym struggle to find a starting point and my goal is to help provide a suitable programme for anyone, whether they are a complete beginner or an experienced lifter.

BOLT aims to act as a personal trainer in an app. Planning your programme can be done instantly by recommending workout splits based on your goals, or manually if you're more experienced. The workout companion has been designed to be as user friendly as possible, with a simple interface which allows you to input workout results without a tedious process. A common problem beginner lifters have is using correct form and technique with their workouts, which is why I have included a form checker which uses augmented reality to give live tips on how to correct your technique. BOLT also includes a calorie tracker for calories consumed as well as burned. The meal tracker allows you to search through a database of foods with their macronutrients listed automatically, and includes a scanner feature which detects foods and barcodes. To motivate users to keep up with habits, a friend group feature exists where you can compete with your friends by completing challenges to keep you and your friends accountable for your healthy habits.
