Bachelor of Design Double major in Interface and Communication Design
Student Bio
Hi there, I'm Megan Townsend, and I'm a passionate designer who has spent the past 3 years studying a mixture of design and web development here at The University of Waikato. I've always been a creative person, growing up in the artistic community of Raglan lit the creative fire in my soul. It all began when I was a kid, when cooking became my first passion, spending holidays in the kitchen with my grandmother and enjoying meals around the dinner table with friends and family.
Later on in life, I discovered my passion for photography. I would take every opportunity to get out on the weekends to take landscape photos of our beautiful country. I was keen to learn more and in 2016 I received a Diploma in Commercial Photography, specialising in Food Photography from South Seas Film & TV School.
In 2020, I embarked on my Bachelor of Design journey here at The University of Waikato. I combined my passion for creating with my love for technology and over the last 3 years, have been studying a combination of design and computer science. I gained many skills in design, including communication, motion & interface design, however creating beautiful user experiences in the UX design space is the area I would like to take my career in the future.
Project Description
Mysterious mushrooms is an educational interactive website designed to bring awareness to the extraordinary benefits mushrooms can provide for our health and how they can help save the planet. The website shares interesting facts about mushrooms, including historical uses for them, an interactive profile library with details on a range mushroom species, and a collection of mushroom inspired recipes.
I chose to embark on this project because I find mushrooms fascinating and want to spread the word about their remarkable advantages. I want to raise awareness of the amazing health advantages that mushrooms have, as well as the sustainable alternatives they may offer to products like packaging and biofuels that are mass manufactured. In addition I set out to combine my passion for cooking and food photography through a dedicated a part of the website for recipes I've developed & photographed myself.
