Student Bio

Kia Orana, my name is Grace Ratima, and I am a 21-year-old Cook Island Māori woman born and raised in Tokoroa. I am the youngest of 10 siblings, I lived in Cairns Australia for half of my life, and have a passion to travel the world. At a young age I took an interest in Design. While I wasn't the most creative or hands on kid, I grew to admire the detail, arrangement, and aesthetics of art. From then, I knew I needed to learn more about Design. My three years of being a Design student at the University of Waikato has been an experience that I will always cherish and remember as the beginning of my career as a Designer.

Project Description

Te Reo for Tamariki is a Poster Series Project I designed for young children to be able to learn some everyday terms in Māori. I chose this specific project as it is a way to inspire the new generations to learn the language of the Indigenous culture of our country, and normalise the use of Te Reo Māori. This project is just a small part to play in the ultimate goal to evolve into a society to which we can all find appreciation and respect for Māori.
