biography

Hello! I am Jamie Nobilo. I will soon be graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Design, majoring in Communication Design and minoring in Marketing at the University of Waikato. I have always had a strong passion for design and the endless possibilities that creativity provides. Therefore, Waikato became the perfect place to for me to study as it gave me the opportunity to explore and be innovative.

Design has always interested me, from fashion through to graphics and illustration. The passion I have for design and the way it has the ability to have an influence on people and their emotions, allowed me to realise that I could make a career out of it. During my time at the University of Waikato, I have learned and practiced a range of essential skills and knowledge to help me become the designer I am. My areas of interest range from branding and print design to illustration. I have had the opportunity to create and explore my own style and have had many experiences that have become milestones in my work to date. These include having the ability to have my work selected for exhibitions and also freelancing and working with well-known companies while I have studied.

project description

If the earth increases its temperature between 1.5 to 2 degrees, the risks towards humanity and ecosystems amplify rapidly and will have serious impacts on all different aspects of the earth and the species that inhabit it. The worst impacts of climate change will be irreversible by 2030 unless we make a change now. The issue of climate change is often spoken about, however, it is not often that conscious efforts are made to change our day-to-day habits that contribute to this problem. The time is now. The project I have created is called Global Gladiators, which is a climate change education resource. This resource aims to educate and raise awareness of the importance of climate change and to motivate tomorrows leaders and citizens to make essential changes in their lifestyles.

This resource is targeted towards New Zealand intermediate aged children between 10 and 14 years old. This demographic has been chosen because in this stage of a child’s brain development, they are strongly influenced by the different factors around them. Consequently, if they have access to the teachings in this resource, they are most likely to be influenced to make a change in their lifestyle by implementing what they have learned in their own homes. This will set them up with positive habits and routines that they can continue throughout their lives and pass them onto future generations, resulting in a significantly large impact on the contributing factors of this global issue.

I have created a resource book for classroom teachers, providing them with all the content and activities they need to provide the student with an effective and memorable learning experience. This resource book shares what our world used to be like, what it is now, what it will be like if we do not make changes and what it can be like if we do make changes. To further emphasise these points, I have created a poster series that are available for both the school and the student to have as well. As supporting collateral, I have made a reusable tote bag available for those who complete the course, as a reminder that it is, ‘Your World, Your Choice’ when making sustainable lifestyle choices.
