BIOGRAPHY

Hello! I am Wenyue (Wendy) Ruan and am a Communication Design student with a minor in Media Design who is soon to graduate. I enjoy working with design in graphics, media and handcraft and have a passion for photography. My love for Art led me to continue my studies in Communication Design from Early Childhood Education.

During my three year degree, I gradually found myself and gained the knowledge I needed across the fields of graphic, interface and media design. I specialise in publication design and motion graphics having a keen interest in branding and UI/UX. I would like to develop my skills in interactive design in the future.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

How to sort and dispose of garbage has become a topic of discussion in every country. Therefore, the guidance and education of garbage classification in daily life are particularly important. I think that children should be aware of protecting the environment and correctly sorting garbage from an early age, gradually develop it into a habit.

Development psychologist Jean Piaget's model, Theory "cognitive development - the combination of learning and playing”, gave me the idea to make a garbage sorting book for preschoolers (3-4 years old) from the perspective of children, and lead them to get to know the different types of garbage in their lives.

This is an interactive book that combines ’find the object’, touchy-feely, pop-up and fold-out. The book is mainly illustrated and accompanied by instructional, easy-to-understand text, Bringing different garbage into corresponding life scenes teaching children to recognise the garbage material in the book. This book mainly introduces the common waste sorting methods in various regions and countries such as recyclable, non-recyclable and food scrap, and introduces the impact of waste sorting on our cities and lives.
