BIOGRAPHY

Hello! I am Shambhu Jayakumar and I am from India. I graduated as an Architect and worked for a few years in India. At that time, I realised that I had more passion for graphic design, and I wanted to dedicate myself completely to this discipline. Taking the diploma course in Computer Graphic Design at The University of Waikato really helped mould the professional designer in me.

During my life as an architect student, I gained the basics and fundamentals of visual design. I used to freelance as a graphic designer while I was working for an architecture firm. I realised that becoming a graphic designer is a rigorous process that takes time and effort. I wanted to gain more practical and theoretical knowledge and to have conversations with experienced designers. I always wanted to study abroad and experience diversity and a new culture. The diploma course offered by Waikato was perfect for me as It integrated different facets of design. I learned many new things from this course and my design professors. Combining both perspectives of an architect and a graphic designer have helped me in developing a unique style. Now I am confident to present myself as a graphic designer and take on new challenges.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The project that I have completed is called Genesis. Genesis is a campaign that focuses on promoting Sustainable Transportation in cities, in order to maintain an eco-friendly environment and preserve the natural resources for our younger generations. New Zealand is a growing economy, and the cities are developing faster than ever. The use of automobiles is increasing rapidly in New Zealand, leading to pollution, traffic and depletion of fuel. My target audience includes city dwellers, environmentalists and cyclists. Genesis focuses on educating people about Sustainable Transportation and how it can be implemented through simple steps. My project tries to achieve this by making thought provoking posters to grab the attention of people and then using brochures, pamphlets and videos to circulate information and educate people about the history, current scenarios and how we can build a better future by standing together. Genesis is not just a campaign, It is a movement and a platform to raise our voices.
