BIOGRAPHY

Hey There! I am Sean Bresnahan and I will soon graduate with a Bachelor of Design, majoring in Communication Design and minoring in Media Design. I grew up in Tauranga, I have always been passionate about illustrating and was introduced to the design world in High School.

When I was young, I would constantly be drawing and sketching and when I started high school I bought photoshop and illustrator. I learnt everything about this software and began to create poster designs of footballers that got very popular on twitter and instagram. In year 11 I took design as a subject and instantly became obsessed with creating.

Growing up, my older sister was a big inspiration to me through her own design work, I guess you could say that it runs in the family. During my experience of studying at Waikato University, I’ve gained so much knowledge and developed the skills and techniques required for all aspects of design. I’ve been exposed to all types of design, coding, animation and illustration projects through my communication and media design papers and I was lucky enough to find my area of interest.

I have great experience in Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign whilst my favorite types of design are print design, branding and illustration. I also currently run a freelance illustration account called Bres Design where I design characters, celebrities, sports people and customers images as well. At the end of the day though I just enjoy being able to follow my passion which is designing and creating new and unique content.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The Guide to Your Community is an illustrated children’s book targeted at teaching kids between 8-12 years of age, the basic building blocks of community involvement and how to be a good leader for their generation. The creation of this project was founded on the lack of content that can be seen in children’s books regarding community, leadership guidance and diversity.

The illustrated book uses a wide variety of different animal characters to represent the vast majority of diversity that is seen in every community. Illustrations for each backdrop of the story show off unique environments and places that translate into what different communities people live in. Imagery of different animals living in environments that they are not usually found in will be shown throughout the story in order to symbolize the idea of the different diverse groups that can be found in communities.

It is filled with content discussing topics such as environmental issues, discrimination, morals and leadership skills/advice. The main target being to give the children a step in the right direction in terms of how they can be a leader in their generation and what they can do to help make their community into a safer, happier and healthier place.
