BIOGRAPHY

Hello, my name is Matthew Morris and I am a third year Bachelor of Design student, double majoring in Media Design and International Languages and Cultures with specialisation in Japanese. I will be graduating this year and hope to begin work in the Design industry putting the skills I have learnt at Waikato to good use. I have always enjoyed all areas of design and have found that Waikato has been a great help at focusing that passion of design into distinct areas and at giving me the chance to gain the necessary skills to make better design projects.

I have wanted to work in a creative industry since I was young, and Waikato has given me so many great opportunities to make that a reality for myself. I really enjoy illustration, typography and UX design in particular, as I find it very rewarding working with other people. I enjoy seeing an idea come to fruition through constant feedback and refinement and also find it a very insightful experience, as I gain more skills and knowledge from working with more experienced Designers. Working alongside many industry professionals has been a great privilege and I hope that I will be able to continue working alongside more in the future. To be able to make a career out of my passion for design would be a dream come true.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

New Zealand has seen a 24% increase in greenhouse gas emissions since 1990, and as it will be today’s youth that inherit the world, we need to make sure they care about its future. As the government plans for a more sustainable future, I want to help young Kiwis become more aware of their carbon footprint when driving to school or work.

My project is called Carbon Cost, and is a series of short, informative animations that will play on social media, giving people more information about how much their vehicle is contributing to New Zealand’s annual carbon emissions, encouraging them to choose cleaner alternatives.
