BIOGRAPHY

Hi there! I’m Laura Thresher, and I’m soon going to be a fresh Bachelor of Design graduate. I’m graduating with a major in Interface Design and a minor in Applied Computing. I’m passionate about UX/UI and improving the connection that we have with our software and devices.

I’ve always been the classic arty kid - scribbling in the margins of my notebook and having ink all over my hands. This coincided with growing up in a techy family, so it seemed only natural to choose a degree that brings together both experiences. My time at Waikato has not only embedded a love for web and UX design, but also a love for designing for people. I’ve realised that there is great satisfaction in building and designing a piece of work which is both functional and beautiful. I’m also eternally grateful for the opportunities that I have been given throughout my degree, being able to assist with the teaching of first and second-year design papers and putting my foot in the industry door through the internship program.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Given the modern-day climate situation, we are witnessing an increasing push for more sustainable living, whether that’s using reusable bags at the supermarket, or paper straws at your favourite restaurant. However, how do we decide what is and isn’t sustainable when looking to buy products online? Do we really know where our products come from and what they are made up of? And how much impact do they have on our climate?

GoodSource aims to tackle this issue. It is a prototype data visualisation embed that can be added to any online store and displays sustainability information about products. This includes carbon & energy consumption, distance travelled, time taken to build, and lifespan. It adds on to the existing product pages, along with adding a comparison system which makes it easy for the customer to compare products against each other.

The versatile design also means it can be slotted into any website, no matter the business, and provides a method for businesses to showcase how eco-friendly their products are.

A nice, compact system to show the impact of purchases on the planet, making buying and selling sustainable easy.
