BIOGRAPHY

Hello! I am Fan Yang. I will graduate with a Graduated Diploma of Design majoring in Communication Design next year. I worked as an art editor for a magazine before I got married. I have also done administrative work in an enterprise.

Design has always been something I love and want to continue working on. I prefer to focus on one field and do it well, so design is the best job option for me. The University of Waikato is my lucky place to continue to pursue my development in design. It offers comprehensive curriculum, such as typeface design, brand design, and app design. In this short period of one year, I found the suitable field for myself in the process of participation. In the future, I would like to be engaged in the design of mobile applications or format.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

I am developing a project called “sustopia-our sustainable community”. It is a children's picture book, which aims to tell children what behaviors around us are conducive to sustainable development. My target audience is second-to third graders who have some reading ability. Yet it is still a big concept for them and not easy to understand. So I wanted to explain the concept in simple words and illustrations.

This book will introduce some current cases of advanced sustainable communities, such as how these communities use recyclable waste to recreate. Among them are soft plastics that can be used to make benches, fences, water slides, garden edges and cable covers. Domestic wastewater such as bath water and washing water is treated to flush toilets or irrigate lawns. These communities also use a lot of clean energy, such as wind and solar power, solar panels are used to provide electricity for road lighting, and can also provide thermal energy to heat domestic water. Installing a translucent cover on the ceiling can save electricity consumption and so on. These are the main ideas I plan to present in the book.
