BIOGRAPHY

Hi! My name is Fleur Rubingh. I am an illustrator, designer and occasional painter. A year ago I decided to continue my stay in New Zealand and further my education by studying Communication Design (a Graduate Diploma) at the University of Waikato.

I'm an originally trained fashion designer, turned graphic designer, turned illustrator. My creative focus has many fields that I would like to keep extending by exploring all kinds of creative language. After working in the fashion sector for 6 years as a fashion and print designer in the Netherlands I decided to expand my horizon and to leave the world of consumerism. My dream is to be able to work solely with sustainable brands that carry the same values as I do. During my time at the University of Waikato I have learned more essential skills, gained knowledge and was able to challenge myself in different disciplines. My expertise lies in illustrating, art direction, print design and branding.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

How can we expect humanity to make conscious and sustainable decisions when most of us have forgotten the value of nature? We start with reconnecting the people to their planet.

My project is a book for children that brings the family together. It is made for display, and functions as a daily reminder to go out and explore the gifts our earth has to offer. The book contains many questions to stimulate curiosity, the children are motivated to think when they have to actively look up the answer. Besides being mentally stimulating, the book also includes activities to empower creativity and reconnect the whole family physically to nature. Exploring outdoors is essential to experience everything our planet has to offer.
