BIOGRAPHY

Hi! I am Emily Nguyen. I am a final-year student double majoring in Interface Design and Computer Science. I am super excited to get into the real world and make a difference with my skill set.

At first, like many other design students, I thought it was all about making things look pretty. But after three years at Waikato, I have realised it is much more than that. Through my experience as a design student, I have turned real data from user research, interviewing, testing to create aesthetics and meaningful design. I also transformed my ideas into reality by utilising my skills gained from Computer Science. I hope to have more opportunity to work in UI/UX design in the future. Waikato has created the foundation for me to achieve my dream.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

According to the World Health Organisation, the world’s cities occupy just 3% of the Earth’s land but accounts for 60-80% of energy consumption and 75% of carbon emission. This results in 9 out of 10 people living in urban areas worldwide, breathing air that did not meet the World Health Organisation’s air quality guidelines. However, this future could be prevented or reduced by a functional and convenient public transport network. Through my project “Connect”, I hope to improve the public transport experience and encourage more people to use public transport in their everyday lives.

“Connect” links to the purpose of the app which is to make it easier for people to get to their destination using sustainable transportation. The main goal of the app is to promote the usage of public transportation options. The app aims at retaining current young transportation users and reduces the needs for them to switch to cars. The app supports convenience by integrating the real-time updates and digital boarding option.

Through “Connect”, I hope to make it easier for people to combine different sustainable transportation to get to their destination.
