BIOGRAPHY

Hello, I am Alex Kirby and I will soon be graduating with a Bachelor of Design, majoring in Communication Design.

I have always had an eye for the finer details in what I do, and have had a passion for drawing and other artistic hobbies since I was young. In school, however, I decided I wanted to pursue a career in computer science as I found I was receiving much higher grades in computer studies than design.

After beginning studies in computer science I found I had little interest in coding, much preferring the design papers I was taking as electives, so following my first year I transferred to a Bachelor of Design.

I enjoyed my design studies much more, and began to find areas of design that I favoured and was more comfortable with. Through my time in this degree I have learned a wide range of skills, from working and time management in general, to more specific design knowledge and skills.

I have found I enjoy branding, digital design, and motion graphics, however I have been able to pick up on skills in many other areas of design that I have tried.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

New Zealand roads are heavily congested with traffic at peak hours from commuters travelling to and from work, consisting primarily of individuals. As slow discontinuous driving can produce up to 60% more emissions as compared to steady driving over the same period of time, peak traffic will be heavily contributing to the diminishing air quality in urban areas.

By reducing the number of vehicles on roads during these peak hours, emissions will be reduced, as well as increasing the flow of traffic. This will then contribute to a smoother flow of traffic, resulting in shorter travel times and lower emissions for remaining cars and other traffic.

I found during this project that, to the average commuter, there was little reason to change to an alternative transport, as anyone concerned with helping to make a change would most likely be doing so already. To encourage people to make a change, Migrate would need to incentivise the continued use of alternative, more environmentally friendly travel.
