Project Description

New Zealand has a significant waste problem which puts us amongst the highest waste producers in the world. My project is envisaged as being part of an awareness campaign to encourage New Zealanders to reduce their waste by reusing, recycling and composting. The proposed solution is a smart billboard that is designed to be placed above bins in very busy areas such as malls and restaurants.

I have produced an interactive smart billboard that focuses on the impact it has on marine life (fish) both good and bad when a user interacts with it. I had to produce code for it using the Processing software, create animation using Adobe After Effects, Illustrations and typography using Adobe Illustrator.

David Katz has stated that cleaning the ocean should be the last thing we do. If people must be encouraged to control their waste before it enters the ocean, therefore, even seemingly insignificant actions matter! My project is designed to encourage such action.
