Biography

I enrolled in the Bachelor of Design at the University of Waikato to pursue my passion for taking information and making it beautiful and meaningful. During my degree I have majored in my main interest, Interface Design, focusing on user experience and interaction as well as design principle and a little marketing too. I’ve found my time here rewarding, the joy I get working on a design problem and my understanding of what it means to be a designer has only grown. I enjoy creating an experience that doesn’t just look pretty, but works well and is founded on research and user needs.

Project Description

The project aimed to solve the identified problem of untidy and littered streets in the Hamilton East student-heavy area. The hypothesis was that this was down to students’ lack of knowledge around recycling. Evidence was gathered by emailing council officials, surveying the student target demographic and other first-hand observations. This validated the hypothesis, and analysis of this research lead to the proposal of the website “Recycle Hamilton” as a solution to teach young people how to recycle. Prototyping and testing of ideas validated that the solution was as intuitive and appealing to students as possible. Implementing the website involved developing 3D modelled assets and utilising front end web development skills. The user experience is simple, interactive and the interface is presented in an attractive, youthful manner. Testing of the website has gained a pleasing response from the target demographic.
