Biography

I have loved art since I was young. I would sit still for ages colouring and drawing. Naturally I grew more in love with art which eventually led me to design.

Design is a great tool as it helps us communicate with other people. I have learnt so much about design through my time at the University of Waikato while studying a Bachelor of Design, and I wish to continue learning more about design in a future career.

Project Description

My degree project is “chori”, a phone application prototype aimed towards dancers and choreographers. chori aids them in recording their choreography digitally. This allows simplification and formalisation of a quite complex task.

Recording choreography can be mundane and a hassle and relying on our memory isn’t always the best way either. Hand written notes take up space and are often messy. Note taking in different formats leads to disorganisation. Recording on your phone means your other notes are not in the same place. This all leads to forgetting or accidentally re-writing choreography that you already choreographed, because nobody seemed to remember it. People don’t always seem to realise that the process they go through could be easier and less painful.

chori is aimed to make this process less complicated and easily accessible. You can type your notes into the application as well as represent it with pictograms of the individual moves. It also allows for videoing sections of choreography. This means a user has many options on how they wish to choreograph.
