Biography

My name is Elliot Wilks. After high school, I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life, I spent a year washing dishes and working as a lifeguard in the US. I thought my so called ‘artistic eye’ (thanks Mum) would never amount to much. I then came down to the mighty Waikato to pursue a degree in Business. It wasn’t until I created a brand identity and promotional video in a first-year marketing class, that I realised that I did not want to do anything else but design and make films.

Now here I am about to graduate with a Bachelor of Design majoring in Interface Design and Media Design; along with a certificate in Leadership Communication.

Project Description

New Zealand is at the brink of an agricultural revolution and farmers are facing more pressure than ever before. Mental health issues among farmers are reaching a new record high, with the top causes being financial stress and loneliness.

I am producing a teaser trailer for my experimental documentary called 'Land of Milk and Honey'. I will also develop a complete graphic identity for the production company producing the film - Trillium Visuals. The documentary will predominantly explore the adversities the working-class farmer faces today. These being - pressure from the media and government, a global change in consumer behaviour and mental health issues. In order to explore this issue from both sides of the spectrum, this topic will be approached in a poetic and abstract manner.
