Biography

Hi there, I’m Charlotte! I will graduate from the University of Waikato with a Bachelor of Design, with a double major in Interface Design and Communication Design. I took digital technologies, art and media studies classes at high school, and wanted to continue learning about these different fields in tertiary study. Studying Design at Waikato has taught me more about my different interests, as well as how to combine them in my design projects. While studying at Waikato, I have grown an interest in branding, packaging and web design.

Project Description

Many sun care products contain oxybenzone and octinoxate, these two chemicals contribute to coral bleaching when they wash off in the ocean. This is a problem for Kiwis who want to spend their summers at the beach while doing their part to keep New Zealand clean and green.

For my project, I wanted to develop a brand that provides affordable reef safe suncare to New Zealanders. Taiao Suncare, Taiao meaning nature in Māori, promotes eco-friendly sun protection with their range of reef-safe SPF products. Taiao Suncare applies its eco-friendly values to all aspects of their brand, choosing to have solid SPF sticks, rather than cream products in plastic tubes. These products will be packaged with recycled cardboard, meaning the packaging can be composted after use.

This project focuses on creating strong branding and packaging designs, as well as an e-commerce website and promotional material.
