Biography

In choosing a design degree wanting to do something quite different (as I have always been better in areas such as Computer Science, and Math than creative tasks). I rarely have had technical issues, but I largely lacked enthusiasm, which was reflected in most of my earlier work, however in taking a few film production papers I eventually found that I really enjoy film making. Most recently, I have had a particular interest in animated film, being inspired by a number of Japanese directors such as Akayuki Shinbou and Makoto Shinkai.

As this relates to my project, I feel as though I must mention that I am autistic. As a result of this I have immense difficulty with most aspects of social interaction, however it could be argued that this disorder allows me to have a relatively unique view of things, as the way I think is inherently different. In addition, I have a degree of obsessiveness with my work which helps with productivity. I cannot say whether or not this is positive.

Project Description

My Project is an semi traditionally animated short film which aims to help “normal” people empathize with people living with highly functioning autism, by communicating how those with the disorder tend to think, and why social interaction can be so difficult. Autism is sparsely depicted in media, when it is, it focuses on those higher on the spectrum, as a result, a lot of people are unaware of the implications of being lower on the spectrum.
