Jamie Bunting

Hello, my name is Jamie. I come from Gizzy, the first city to see the light of a new day! I have previously studied at Victoria University, where I studied Commerce with Marketing and Management as my majors. I moved to Waikato to study a BCGD as I became fond of design and heard this was a good place to study it.

My degree project focuses on a promotional campaign for a local DJ. This project enables me to use my skills in print and web design.

Rodd Castle

Hi, I'm Rodd and I like to eat, sleep and do stuff that's not sitting down. I am extremely keen to finish university and get out into the real world, it will be pretty cool. My strengths at University have been web coding and final design solutions; I am not a big fan of process and deep insightful explanations of my work. What gets me up in the morning is sport and exercise; if I had my ideal life I would surf, wakeboard, snowboard and do flips all day.

Cheers,
Rodd with two d's.

Saranna Drury

Hello! My name is Saranna Drury and I am a Graphic Designer from Thames on the Coromandel Peninsula. I am a hardworking and passionate designer with expertise in typography & lettering, publication & print, illustration, branding and website design.

For my degree project I have collaborated with another fantastic designer, Haylie Gray to produce a typography handbook for secondary school students called "Friend Not Foe". This book is aimed at introducing young designers to the world of typography in a friendly and fun manner.

P.S. I am awesome. I love type. Let's be friends.

Daryl Ellis

Hello my name is Daryl Ann Ellis.

I have ventured to Waikato University from Mount Maunganui.

Studying Graphic Design has allowed me to discover my strengths and interests in particular areas including photography, print and web design.

My degree project is titled "VINTAGE RESURRECTION" it is an online vintage clothing store that allows the user to purchase and customize vintage garments.

Matt Fraser

The religions of ancient Egypt viewed survival as the continued existence of the corporeal body. To preserve the body meant a defense against the passage of time. In much the same way, I see film and design as a tool of preserving a moment in time, and furthermore the representation of life. Using these tools to snatch a moment from the flow of time. Hi I'm Matt, I use a range of media, both old and new to create clashing and dynamic compositions.

The degree project I am working on is an anti-bullying campaign called Inkling. The campaign centre force is online while also offering a board game that anyone can print off the website. The game aims to bring middle school students together in a social environment, and learn the information they need to cope with school bullying.

Haylie Gray

Over the course of my Bachelor of Computer Graphic Design I have gained expertise in various media ranging from motion graphics to branding and I use this broad spectrum of knowledge to enhance each project. I have chosen to focus on illustration, typography, print and publication design.

The degree project "Friend Not Foe" is a typography handbook that was created in collaboration with fellow designer Saranna Drury. The book aims to give young designers an inspirational and engaging introduction to typography.

I look forward to further developing my abilities within the print and advertising industry.

Gerrit Hass

Hi, my name is Gerrit, I have a long travelling history, starting in Germany, soon crossing the world to get to Chile, and a few years later ending up in New Zealand.

I enjoy nature, photography and 3D animation.

For my degree project, I am creating an interactive installation with Josiah Paul, to create awareness of water conservation. It will combine modern technology such as motion tracking through the Kinect and the computer.

Reegan Jordan

Hey my name's Reegan. I was raised in Rotorua and I'm pretty keen to travel and explore the world.

I enjoy street art, particularly stencil work, and character based design.

For my project I've made the first issue of a comic book, a brief animated teaser trailer for the comic, promotional posters and a website with character and story info.

Ceapum Kaushish

/sea-puh-m/

A versatile graphic designer who believes in the beauty of dreams and is determined to make them come true. Originally from India, her journey as a Designer began in New Zealand. She is a passionate creative and specializes in print, publication, illustration, motion graphics and photography.

Ceapum's degree show project is an interactive printed book for children called "The Adventures of Alex - Journey to Antarctica". This project is a unique mix of digital and print based media and shows a vast range of skills. Each page of the book creates a memorable experience for the reader.

Cole Majoor

After taking a good look at myself, I can go to summarise that I am a cultural based type of person. Although I expand my design to meet requirements, I enjoy creating Samoan Tatau design and drawing in general. When it comes to computer graphics, I like making websites, brand identity, poster and onscreen illustration. When thinking of what to do for my degree project, I had to think of something that hasn't been done before to have a point of difference and also to tie in with the theme "Terra Incognita". Being creative with children's lifejackets was a great opportunity to use design whilst promoting a cause to be safe in the water.

Karen Manktelow

Hi, I am Karen, I have lived in Hamilton all my life. Yay. I can't wait to get out and see the rest of the world.

I enjoy working with technology and have a strong interest in web and interactive design but also love typography.

For my degree project I created a mobile application that allows people to scan a cosmetics barcode and get information on how harmful the ingredients of the cosmetic is to the person and their environment. The application also allows people to connect and share with others.

Katrina McIntosh

Hi there. I entered the BCGD course at Waikato having had worked within the print industry and with an interest in web design. My main areas of expertise are print, web design and branding, but I've also gained experience in a wide range of other related areas. I pride myself on being a versatile, cross-media designer.

My degree project is called Wordals, and is comprised of applications for children's learning on an interactive touchscreen device; in this case an Android tablet. It has been coded largely using HTML5 and Javascript. The applications are aimed at preschool-aged children, with different aspects targeting more specific age ranges within that.

Luci Mew

Hey I'm Luci Mew.

With original roots in Australia, Hamilton has seen me through my high school years where my passion for design and photography has unfolded, and since evolved further whilst undertaking a rewarding journey through this degree.

My heart lies within nature, sunshine, travelling, fashion & capturing moments through the shutter, as well as a love of design, digital technology and creativity.

My notion is that design should reach the audience whilst being innovative and forward focused, which my degree project explores through the branding of an eco-friendly fashion label, utilizing interactive advertising to engage consumers and build brand equity.

Stephen Nieuwelaar

Hi, I'm Stephen, a third year graphic design student with a passion for web design and illustration. I specialize in coding websites and creating illustration and print based designs such as logos and posters. I like to use vibrant colours in my work and create fun and exciting designs. My work usually incorporates a strong message to communicate to the viewer. My degree show "Now it's Political" shows some of the most influential political figures of the Twentieth Century in caricature form to create a humorous historical experience. This project shows my illustration and page layout skills.

Tyron Noble

Hello everyone, my name is Tyron Noble. I am in my third and final year of studying Computer Graphic Design at Waikato University. I have a passion for action sports, and I hope to get involved with this industry in the future.

My degree project is called the "Show Off Tour".

Show Off Tour is an advertising campaign for action sport brands within New Zealand. This event gives the relatively unknown brands A kick-start chance to success and promotes the forever growing culture of action sports in New Zealand.

Dairne O'Sullivan

Come one, come all. I'm the amazing entertainer, Dairne.

I set out on my enduring quest to gain knowledge and master the computer arts. I have clocked many levels and conquered many fears that stood in my way of glory. I have forever enjoyed graphic design and coding. I look forward to furthering my influence in the digital environment of this world.

For my final test I present to you my degree project. I composed a youth suicide awareness campaign to ignite the community's support and make them realise some of New Zealand's teenagers need their help.

Josiah Paul

So I'm Josiah, known for singing loudly and annoyingly (at times), in the labs of S-Block. I was not born here but in Sarawak, Malaysia, but I have spent 20 of my 23 years in New Zealand.

My passions are: motion graphics, constructivist inspired design and photography. This lead me to enrol in BCGD which has been a fantastic part of my journey of increasing my knowledge and skills.

I am working with Gerrit Haas on our degree project combining the Kinect and Processing. Our interactive design aims to create awareness of water conservation in domestic households.

Jacob Pore

Ko Karioi te Maunga, Ko Whaingaroa te Moana, Ko Te Kopua te Marae, Ko Hakopa Ihaia Jacob Pore ahau. Kia ora, My name is Jacob Pore and I come from Whaingaroa on the west coast of New Zealand. Creative thinking, designing and an interest in computing lead me to study Graphic Design at The University of Waikato.

My degree project is titled "Te Hokinga Mai, The Return Home". Using animation and interaction I have created a digital storybook based on Eva Rickard's famous land protests in Raglan during the seventies.

Patrick Ryan

Cuteness is a large part of Patrick's life. From an early age he idolised charming characters, treating his favourites like celebrities.

As a result, his design philosophy is all cute, everything. He has a passion for creating twee characters and believes everything should have a personality. His characters express sweetness in terms of the personal quality as well as the appearance of sugary food.

Evidently, his degree show is based on how cute design can be represented through letterforms. Over his years of tertiary study he has developed an interest in typography, print and web design.

Kelsey Scheurich

Hi

I am Kelsey and I was born and raised in good old Hamilton. I am a passionate designer with skills in print, illustration, type, web, branding, motion graphics and programming, and I can't wait to get out into the industry and gain some experience.

For my project I have chosen to create a game that educates its players about the history of computer games (gameception!). It follows the adventures of ROM as he battles it out against the evil computer system ECO.

Althea Schutte

At Waikato University I have discovered a passion for web design and motion graphics. I feel my strong points throughout this course have been designing and coding websites. I enjoy the implementation as much as the process and hope to find myself in a career that will help me expand my abilities in jQuery and Javascript. For my Degree Project I chose to explore how website interfaces could accommodate content such as images within sites. I came up with the idea to create an image slider that has the ability to take colours from the displayed image and apply the colours within the website's interface. I have packaged my project as a jQuery plug-in that will enable people to attach its functions to their slider and bring harmonizing dynamic colour to their website.

Tom Silvester

Hey, I'm Tom, I come from the exotic town of Morrinsville and have lived in the Waikato all my life. I enjoy all the stereotypical pursuits of the 22 year old male, along with drawing, playing my flatmates bass guitar and eating chocolate cake (especially the kind with two layers of icing).

For my degree project I am creating a commercial board game. My game aims to combine complex strategy with enjoyable and easy to learn game play.

Hika Taewa

Kia ora, chur, my name is Hika and I hail from the central plateau, from a small town called Turangi. There, the air is fresh, the mountains are covered with snow, and the lake and rivers don't look like 'cuppa tea'.

I have always enjoyed art and design, with New Zealand and Maori culture being strong influences in my work.

For my degree project, I wanted to create an animation that promotes Maori culture and stories, by adapting a traditional Maori narrative, and producing a modern Maori aesthetic. I then based my animation on the legend of Mataora and Niwareka.

Daniel Van Woerkom

Sup, my name's Dan v.W. I was born and raised in Featherston, a.k.a Feathy, where there's not a lot to do, so I often found myself chilling out with a pencil and paper sketching.

My interest in illustrations, electronic games and computers directed me to The University of Waikato, where I am currently studying a Bachelor of Computer Graphic Design. It is these same interests that have become the main driving force behind my degree project, for which I have chosen to design and illustrate a trading card game.

Peace out.

Michelle Whimp

Michelle Whimp, 21, Whangarei.

For my degree project, I've explored the advertising potential of a considerably new type of digital image known as 'cinemagraphs', within a reading campaign for the fictional organisation the New Zealand Writers & Readers Trust (NZWRT). A combination of video and photography, these cinemagraphs capture endless pieces in time, and are full of life and energy, drawing the viewer in to the moment.

In the future, I hope to take my passion for all areas of design into the film industry (preferably on set). When I'm not hard at work, I enjoy photography, sketching, and practicing archery.
